  1. What type of yoga do you offer?
  2. We offer a variety of Vinyasa Hatha based classes.

  3. Do I need to pre-register for classes?
  4. No, not for regularly scheduled classes. Please show up 15-20 minutes before class starts though so that we can get you registered and familiarized with the studio.

However, we consistently offer special events that do require pre-registration.

  5. I've never done yoga. What class should I take?
  6. The beautiful thing about yoga is that anyone can do it and not only that, most people can take pretty much any class as long as you keep a few important things in mind.

First of all, yoga is not about trying to achieve crazy bodily contortions or trying to get into the pose that your neighbor in class might be in. It is about exploring the edges of your ability and pushing against those edges to achieve physical progress in the practice. In any yoga class or yoga pose, you should only do as much as you personally feel you can do. You are the only person that knows your body intimately and knows when and if you are pushing yourself too far.

Second of all, there are a wide variety of yoga styles in general. We offer just a handfull of the type that we enjoy. We recommend trying all the classes that we offer to see what you like about each. Additionally, each teacher has his or her own style which often students connect to personally.

Having said that, we would recommend to a new yoga student that they first try the Slow Flow class. It is generally a slower paced, more gentle class.

  7. What should I bring with me to my first class?
  8. The most important thing to bring with you is an open mind and a spirit of exploration. Otherwise we have everything you need to get started from mat and towel rentals to the essential yoga gear you may decide to purchase.

  9. What should I wear to class?
  10. Most importantly you should wear something that is comfortable and allows you to move and stretch. We recommend tighter fitting but flexible clothing as well as materials that wick moisture especially for the Hot Flow classes.

  1. What classes do you offer?
  2. We offer a variety of Vinyasa Hatha based classes.

  3. What class passes do you offer?
  4. We offer a variety of class passes from a drop-in rate to a monthly unlimited pass.

  5. What are your class pass and studio policies?
  6. We have several policies related to the passes.

  7. Do I need to pre-register for classes?
  8. No, not for regularly scheduled classes.

However, we consistently offer special events that do require pre-registration.

  9. Why do the class passes expire?
  10. Please note that the more classes you purchase, the less each individual class costs. We do this as a way of rewarding those who commit themselves to a regular practice of yoga. Please honor this policy and enjoy the savings that your commitment derives.

  11. Why can't I share my class pass?
  12. If you would like to share a class pass, we offer a couples monthly unlimited package that can be shared with one other person of your choice. We will however, with a doctors note allow someone to gift their classes to another student if at any point you are physically unable to participate in any of our yoga classes.

  1. How can I best keep up with the events and workshops happening at Yoga South?
  2. The best way is to sign-up for our monthly e-mail newsletter and occasional important event or announcement e-mails.

  3. Can I bring my son or daughter to class with me?
  4. We encourage the cultivation of yoga in our own children and we urge you to do the same. However, children under the age of 13 are not permitted in class. Children over the age of 13 are permitted as long as they are accompanied by an adult 18 years old or older and are supervised so that they do not disturb other students.

  5. I have an injury and/or medical condition. Can I still practice yoga at Yoga South?
  6. Usually, yes. For serious injuries and medical conditions, please consult with your doctor before beginning a yoga practice. In general, yoga can be very therapeutic as well as very revealing. Always listen to your body and make modifications as necessary. Yoga should not be painful at any time (remember to not confuse discomfort, e.g., pushing your edges, with pain).

Please let your teacher know about any specific health issues or concerns you have before class starts.

  7. Do you offer any discounted classes?
  8. Yes, we offer discounts to several types of customers.

  9. What is your retail policy?
  10. Please view our retail policy page for details.

  11. Do you offer gift certificates?
  12. Yes.

  13. Do you have a lost and found?
  14. Yes. The box is usually located by the cubbies but if you need assistance finding something, please ask a Yoga South staff member for help.

  15. What does E-RYT, RYT and RYS stand for?
  16. registered yoga teacher logo

These designations mean that the associated yoga teacher or yoga studio has met some minimum educational standards as defined by the Yoga Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to standards and integrity in yoga.

E-RYT and RYT are levels of "registered yoga teachers." The "E" in E-RYT stands for "experienced" and means that the teacher has completed a higher level of requirements than the RYT level.

    registered yoga teacher logo

RYS stands for "registered yoga school." Again, this means the organization, which can be looked at as a studio or an individual teacher, has met some minimum educational requirements in order to be able to teach yoga students to become yoga teachers. An RYS organization can offer programs that, upon completion by a student, allows the student to apply for the RYT designation using the RYS program as a basis for the application.

All Yoga South teachers are at a minimum RYT (or in the process of applying to be RYT) and Yoga South, via our Creative Director, Marcia Hoffheins, is an RYS.
